Behavior Modification

Should you ever be concerned about any behaviors that your dog or pup is exhibiting? If you are worried about the new action your pup or dog is displaying? If an unwanted behavior is escalating? Should a new, unwanted behavior or display just appear? Please call us. There is no charge for an evaluation at Iron Mountain K9. If we can solve the problem during the free evaluation, we will do exactly that.

There are people in the Portland area advertising their expertise in canine psychology and behaviors. They list their credentials on a website. They charge a fee for an initial consultation. Then an even bigger fee for every appointment. With no guarantee of resolving the problem. Every day that your canine is exhibiting unwanted behaviors is a bad day. Habits form, hopelessness begins to set in. Worry and concern become the norm.

At Iron Mountain K9 we do not charge for the initial evaluation. We have a one-time fee for behavior modification. Time is important in a lot of these situations. You are not worked in, you are at the front of the line. IMK9 doesn't want a family dog to be removed if possible. This can create a whole new set of problems.

Behaviors in canines come from a variety of sources. There are breed-specific traits, genetics (different from breed specific), environmental, inadvertent training, and inference. Knowing where the unwanted behavior came from is important. How to know comes from real-world canine experience.

What you see in the photos is a Cane' Corso (KAH-neh Kor-so) that was used as a brood bitch. She was moved three different times. This was because she always produced good pups. The process used for breeding her was never changed. This fostered an adverse response to both canine and human males.

These photos show how quickly she altered her thinking. In the top photo, she approached me immediately. Her intent was to take the opportunity to apply dominant pressure, displaying the adverse reaction she has for any man. Notice her mouth is open. She was starting to grumble. If I had pushed her away, she would have lunged forward with a series of aggression "barks" until she was standing over me. If she had been allowed to do this, and I had moved. She would have begun to growl a warning. A bite would have followed.

Every man probably meant one thing to this Cane' Corso. Is he here to take my pups? I rubbed my hand under her jaw and across her shoulder. My hand smelled of a pup. With caution, she searched me. When she stepped back to look around, I got up, went outside to get the pup. She was right behind me, I had to push her back to get outside. When I came back inside with the pup, she was a bulldozer. Throughout the day if she wanted the pup, she had to come to me to get him. This is how it began...

Breeding is a business. With a Cane' Corso of this quality, breeders were making upwards of $3,000.00 for the first and second pick of the litter. Why did she go from breeder to breeder? This was the agreement when they purchased her.

Iron Mountain K9 doesn't want your selection process to be a guessing game. You shouldn't rely on a stranger to make the selection for you. This could be a fifteen-year mistake. A $75.00 fee is what we charge to be your experience and knowledge. If you want to make the selection yourself, we understand. Let's sit down and have a discussion about what you should be looking for. Opting for a shelter dog or pup can make you feel good. Always remember, that this shelter dog is in a shelter for a reason. You shouldn't be confused when you find out that nobody at the shelter can give you a satisfactory answer to this important question. Don't hesitate to call us. Let us assist you in making the best possible choice.
